The last four months have been a little crazy and I've been terrible at updating obviously! I wish I could say I think I will do better but I'm not sure I will until this semester is over as it is my last semester of Dental Hygiene School.
We started school again the first of september. Many things happened this semester. Jason was able to finish up all his requirements and graduated with his bachelors degree in Biology. He has finished all his applications to medical school. He ended up sending back 18 secondaries, has been denied from seven, had an interview at the University of Utah and feels that it went well, and is still waiting for 10 more reply's. It's been very frustrating waiting for so long, but we probably won't know much until about march. We're really praying he will get in this year so we can keep going on our journey but I know the Lord knows what's best for us and we'll do whatever he would like us to do. Jason is taking a few more classes this semester. He's taking anatomy to get ahead for medical school as well as a diversity course required by the u of u.
This last semester for me was a little bit of a stressful one. It went well but we are now seeing harder patients and it has been very hard to find patients and even harder to find reliable patients. We have many regulations we have to follow and requirements to fill. When our patients don't show and if we can't get another in our chair that day, not only do we loose half of our clinic points for the day, but we also get a 1% deduction off our final grade and have to remediate for the clinic time we lost. Therefore, it's very stressful when patients don't show or cancel on us last minute. I know people have lives and things come up but it does put on the pressure. Needless to say, I finished the semester and am thoroughly looking forward to the end of this one so I can finally be done and graduate. Other than that, school has been wonderful. I really enjoy what I do and what I'm learning. At the end of the semester, I was able to travel to LA to University of Southern California to take my anesthesia boards. They went well but were a little scary. Jason was my patient and the first injection I gave him, the examiners had a disagreement on one part of it so they made me withdraw my needle and left to go discuss the issue. During this time, I sat there wondering what I had done wrong and also my needle cap had fallen on the floor when I pulled it off so I couldn't even cap my needle. Well they came back and told me that nothing was wrong and that I needed to redo that injection. Luckily they allowed me to do it in the same place and I didn't have to do the other side, but I was a little nervous after that. I did pass! Yeah! I'm so excited to have that one over so I only have a few more boards to take. I will take my national written boards in march and my clinical boards the first weekend in May. They also added a written portion to the clinical boards which I will take during the month prior to my clinical boards. I graduate April 14th and it can't come soon enough but in the mean time, I will definitely enjoy the semester!
Jason and I also celebrated our 3rd anniversary this year. Our anniversary was December 15th and my anesthesia boards were the 16th so we left provo the 14th and drove to Las Vegas where we stayed with Tim and Nellie. Tim had to work at 4 in the morning so we weren't able to see him but we were able to talk with Nellie for a while. We then drove to LA the next morning. This was our anniversary so after walking around campus to find the testing site, we went to dinner and then I did a little studying. The next day I had my written portion of the test at 8 in the morning and then my clinical test at 2:35. That night we drove to Temecula and stayed with Shirleen. She was so kind and such a great host. The next morning we drove to disneyland where we spent the day. It rained all day so we were a little cold but the lines were very short so that was nice. That night we drove to Primm and stayed there. On saturday, we had lunch with Tim and Nellie. It was so good to see them again. We sure miss them and are so grateful that we are friends. We then drove the rest of the way to richfield and came home on Sunday.
Jason had to work for the next two days then we drove back to richfield on Tuesday. We had such a fun break and christmas. On christmas eve, we drove to Beaver and went snowboarding. It was so fun! Nobody had been on the mountain since the big snowstorm so we were first on the mountain. It was wonderful. We then went back to richfield and spent Christmas with my family. The next Thursday, we drove to Alton for the Bastian family reunion. It was so fun to see everyone. Then Saturday and sunday we were able to be with all of Jason's family and we finally came home Sunday.
I started school monday and Jason started school today. It was such a great break!!!!! Here are a few pictures of the last little while of us. They include when we went to see Tarzan, Disneyland, snowboarding and the reunion!
This is a cute outfit from the Anderson's for Kassi and also a picture of Kassi's favorite thing to do (when she can get away with it!)
While we were on break, we also went sledding with my family and Kassi had a little accident. She is ok now, but she has a corneal abrasion about the size of a dime and we have to put medicine in her eye three times a day. It was a little scary at the time but she's just fine now!
I also promised Jason I would post this picture. We were driving from Richfield to Sigurd and this is what we ran into. Oh the joys of small towns!! We love being in Richfield!
Well that's the last few months in a nutshell. We are very excited for this year as it will bring so many changes! We'll try to keep you updated on our endeavors!
